Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski wants to move to Manchester United this summer but his potential arrival may hinge on the future of Wayne Rooney, according to the Sun.

The Polish hitman has continued his excellent form in front of goal this season scoring 17 goals in just 22 league games so far this season to take his tally to 63 in 123 appearances since moving to Dortmund from Lech Poznań in 2010.

Lewandowski’s future has been questioned in recent months with the striker yet to sign a contract extension, with his current deal due to expire in 2014, meaning Dortmund may have to cash-in this summer or risk losing him for nothing 12 months later.

The Sun claim the 24-year-old wants to try his luck in the Premier League and would love to seal a move to United, but Sir Alex Ferguson would have to sell one of his four striker to make room for the talented forward.

The report suggests that Ferguson is a huge fan of Lewandowski’s and pulled out of a proposed £17m deal last summer after signing Robin van Persie, but is believed to be keeping a close eye on the players situation and may resurrect his interest if one of his current crop of strikers leaves this summer.

The newspaper states that Wayne Rooney could be the man to go with question marks raised over his future at Old Trafford after he was left on the bench for United’s crucial Champions League second leg against Real Madrid.

The Mirror are reporting today that big-spending PSG are eyeing a move for Rooney this summer and if he does leave at the end of the season it could pave the way for Lewandowski to replace him at the Premier League leaders.
