Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Manchester United are linked with Gareth Bale.
Manchester United have made contact with Tottenham Hotspur over a potential move for Gareth Bale but have been told it will take £70m to land the winger, according to the Express.
The Welshman is enjoying a stunning season that’s seen him score 16 goals in 25 Premier League games to help guide Spurs into third position in the table as well as qualify for the last eight of the Europa League.
However, his form has simply fuelled speculation that he could be set to leave White Hart Lane this summer and the Express suggests league leaders Manchester United are one of several big European clubs interested.
The report claims that United have now made contact with Spurs over a potential move for Bale with chief executive David Gill understood to have approached Daniel Levy over the 23-year-old’s availability. However, the United supremo is believed to have been left stunned when the Spurs chairman said it would take a bid of £70m to land their prized asset.
The newspaper claims the north Londoners will try to persuade the former Southampton youngster that his future is at White Hart Lane by offering him a new five-year contract that would see him double his wages to around £150,000-a-week, and while Bale is open to the idea of staying at Spurs as long as they qualify for the Champions League next season, the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and United may be ready to pounce if Spurs miss out although they may expect Levy to back down on his valuation.
