Arsenal Respond To Wilshere Injury Set-Back Reports

Arsenal have denied reports claiming Jack Wilshere has suffered an injury set back and confirmed he remains on course to face Reading at the end of the month.

Arsenal have moved quickly to play down reports claiming Jack Wilshere has suffered an injury set back and confirmed the midfielder remains on course to face Reading at the end of the month, according to the Daily Mail.

Wilshere picked up an ankle knock against Tottenham two weeks ago and boss Arsene Wenger confirmed the injury last week saying the 21-year-old had suffered a problem to his right ankle and would be out until after the international break.

However, reports on Monday afternoon claimed a recent scan had revealed that Wilshere had suffered a re-occurence of his troublesome injury that kept him out for all of last season and was set to be on the sidelines for a further 6 weeks.

But it seems those reports were wide of the mark as Arsenal have moved quickly to deny any such setback with a spokesman telling the Mail that Wilshere remains on course to return against Reading at the end of the month.

‘Nothing has changed in Jack’s recovery, there’s no setback or further damage to his ankle and no concern about any long-term problems,’ said a club spokesperson.

‘Jack was told to rest and we are still on course for him to resume training and be available for selection for the home game against Reading.’

It would have been a major blow to our top-four hopes if Wilshere was indeed ruled out for six weeks. That would mean he’d be out until early May which is almost the rest of the season, so to hear he’s still on course to return against Reading is a relief.

It was a great weekend to be a Gooner with a hard-faught victory away at Swansea followed by Tottenham losing at home to Fulham, meaning we’re just four points adrift with a game in hand. To lose Wilshere would have been a real body blow but thankfully it seems he’ll be back after the interlull.
