Victor Wanyama

Liverpool have joined rivals Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Everton in showing an interest in Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has had the Kenyan enforcer extensively scouted in recent months and is now weighing up a move with the Merseysiders believed to be targetting up to four new signings this summer.

Rodgers is understood to have identified his defence as an area that needs strengthening and Wanyama’s versatility is likely to be seen as a huge asset with the 21-year-old predominantly a holding midfielder but is also capable of playing at centre-back.

However, the Mail suggest Liverpool are likely to face stiff competition for his signature with Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Everton all also keeping a close eye on the powerful midfielders progress, with the SPL champions valuing Wanyama at around £10m due to the fact he will only have one-year left on his contract this summer.

Wanyama has been hugely impressive at the heart of Celtic’s midfield since his move from Beerschot in 2011 and was a star performer during the Scottish giants run in the Champions League, with his goal against Barcelona at Parkhead being a particular highlight.

A move at the end of the season is now likely and it seems he won’t have any shortage of takers in the Premier League if he fancies a move south of the border.
