Arsenal and Manchester United have been boosted in their pursuit of Robert Lewandowski after Borussia Dortmund identified Alvaro Negrado as a potential replacement for the striker, according to the Express.

Lewandowski emerged as one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe after his goals lead Dortmund to successive Bundesliga titles in 2001 and 2012.

However, with his contract due to expire in 2014 the Express claims the Polish international has refused to sign an extension and has expressed  his desire to leave the German champions with Arsenal and Manchester United understood to be keen on luring him to England.

The Premier League duo have now received a boost with the newspaper suggesting Dortmund are ready to cash in this summer and do business for around £18m rather than lose him for nothing 12 months down the line.

Boss Jurgen Klopp already appears to be planning for life without the 24-year-old with the Express claiming he has identified Sevilla hitman Alvaro Negredo as the ideal replacement and will look to tie up a deal for the Spaniard at the end of the season.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could certainly do with another potent threat up front with the Gunners over-reliant on Olivier Giroud as their out-and-out striker this season, so a move for Lewandowski wouldn’t be a huge surprise.

But talk of Man Utd interest may raise a few eyebrows considering they already boast a wealth of attacking talent that includes the likes of Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez, so you’d expect one of those four would need to make way if United moved for the Dortmund man.
