Arsenal Transfer News: David Villa & Cesc Fabregas

Latest Arsenal transfer news: Long-term target David Villa wants to leave Barcelona this summer and could Cesc Fabregas make a sensational return to north London?

Barcelona-Cesc-Fabregas

Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, has David Villa missed his chance to join Arsenal and could Cesc Fabregas make a dramatic return to the Emirates?

Villa missed the boat?

First up and the Mirror are claiming that Barcelona striker David Villa will look for a move away from the Nou Camp this summer in order to boost his World Cup hopes but he may have missed his chance to seal a move to Arsenal.

Villa has struggled to cement himself in the Catalans starting eleven this season and is eager to secure more first team football next season ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The report suggests we were interested in signing the 31-year-old during the January transfer window but Barca refused to let him leave and it’s now claimed that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has ended his interest in Villa and turned his attention to Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic – who’s almost eight years youngster than the Spaniard.

Fabregas return?

Next and the Daily Star are reporting that Arsenal have been put on red alert with Barcelona willing to consider selling midfielder Cesc Fabregas this summer to raise funds for a rebuilding job at the Nou Camp.

Cesc left north London in 2011 to return ‘home’ but hasn’t been able to cement himself as a first team regular and has found himself on the bench for many of the crunch games this season, including his sides Champions League first leg defeat to Bayern Munich last week.

A Barca source is quoted as saying that the club will consider any offer made for the 25-year-old this summer:

”If an important offer for Cesc arrives we will study the situation.” A Barca source told the Star

The report claims Fabregas wants to remain with his boyhood club but may be tempted by the prospect of a return to Arsenal where he would command a first team place which would boost his chances of breaking into the Spain side at the World Cup next year.

The Star also suggests Fabregas has been looking into the possibility of bringing up his newly born daughter in England, while he also recently offered to pay £5.4m to buy his girlfriend’s stake in a London flat owned by her former husband, further fuelling rumours he could be set for a dramatic return to the Emirates.

There have always been reports suggesting we have first option to buy him back and I honestly don’t think he’d ever go and play for the likes of Chelsea or Man City, so I think we’d be well-placed if if Barca ever decide to sell and Fabs wants to come back to the Premiership. Will it happen? I’m not convinced, but the idea of Fabregas returning to play alongside the likes of Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla is a mouth-watering prospect.
