Senior figures at Paris Saint-Germain are claiming they’ve managed to persuade Arsene Wenger to leave Arsenal this summer, according to the Telegraph.

The boss has one year left on his current deal and has always respected his contracts but the newspaper suggests that the French giants Qatari owners have been telling their friends that Wenger will be taking over from Carlo Ancelotti at the end of this season with a meeting planned in Paris next week to tie up the loose ends.

PSG are nine points clear at the top of Ligue 1 and on course to seal their first title since 1994 but growing tensions between Ancelotti and sporting director Leonardo has resulted in the Italian deciding to quit with the report claiming he’ll be taking over from Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.

Wenger has been in charge at the Emirates for 17 years but the squad has slowly fallen further and further behind the likes of Manchester United and this season will see the club end it’s eight season without silverware.

However, despite this, Wenger still has the full backing of the owner and board and the Telegraph claim Arsenal will hope Wenger’s flirtation with PSG is simply a bargaining chip to increase his transfer budget this summer with Stan Kronke understood to have promised the boss £50m to rebuild his squad with.

Wenger was quizzed about the reports linking him with the PSG job after the Man Utd game and he insisted that he would only consider his future at the end of his contract.

“First of all I don’t know too much about what’s been said about me. Then I’m concentrating on the next game and the next season. At the end of my contract I’ll see what I can do. I’ve always respected my contracts. I can’t see at my age why that should change.”  Wenger is quoted as saying by the Telegraph

While the Telegraph seem confident this Wenger-to-PSG story has foundation, I really don’t see the boss jumping ship this summer. He’s always been loyal to the club and has a job to see through at Arsenal. To leave ahead of potentially the biggest summer in recent memory would be a huge shock.

It looks like he’s finally going to have some money to spend and we have the basis of a very good team here. If Wenger could add a couple of world class player this summer I think the trophy-drought could come to an end, and I think Wenger will be here to take the plaudits.
