Liverpool and Manchester United will have to fend off interest from Champions League finalists Bayern Munich if they’re to lure Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna to the Premier League, according to talkSPORT.

The report claims Liverpool sent representatives to watch Torino’s 2-2 draw at Bologna last month for what was one of several scouting trips to watch the talented Ogbonna this season, as boss Brendan Rodgers lines up potential replacements for the retiring Jamie Carragher.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson could also be on the look-out for reinforcements at the back with Rio Ferdinand coming towards the end of his illustrious career, while doubts continue over the long-term fitness of Nemanja Vidic.

Torino have always insisted that Ogbonna won’t be sold but talkSPORT claim the Serie A outfit have decided to cash-in and sell this summer, with Bayern Munich understood to have made preliminary enquiries for the Italian international  defender.

The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the finest central defenders in Serie A over the past two seasons and it seems Liverpool and United will have to move fast if they want to bring him to England at the end of the season.
