Gonzalo Higuain has been linked with a move to Arsenal or Tottenham this summer after Real Madrid confirmed the striker will be sold at the end of the season, according to the Daily Mail.

The Argentinean hitman is just about to complete his seventh season at the Bernabeu after moving to Madrid from River Plate in 2006, and has gone on to score an impressive 119 goals and provide 45 assists in 260 appearances for the Spanish giants.

However, Higuain has  struggled to cement himself as a regular first team player in this season with boss Jose Mourinho preferring Karim Benzema in attack, and it seems the 25-year-old’s time at the Bernabeu will come to an end this summer with Madrid general manager, Jose Angel Sanchez, confirming the news.

‘In a great club like Real, we believe we need two number nines of a high level. We have Benzema and Higuain, Higuain will leave, Benzema will stay and two others will come.’ Sanchez is quoted as saying in the Mail.

The Mail claim that Arsenal and Tottenham are among the clubs interested in signing the talented striker, with Spurs said to have failed with a bid to land him last summer and Andre Villas-Boas is expected to renew his interest at the end of the season.

Arsenal have looked light up front at times this season and have relied heavily on Olivier Giroud for the majority of the season, so another striker could be on the cards this summer and a proven goal-scorer like Higuain could be just what the Gunners need to get them challenging for silverware again.

Tottenham may also be on the look out for another forward with Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor only managing 14 goals between them this season, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top if the north London rivals go head-to-head for Higuain this summer.
