Manchester City have opened talks with Malaga over the signing of £27m-rated Chelsea target Isco, according to the Daily Mail.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the best young attackers in Spain after a superb 24 months with Malaga since moving from Valencia in 2011. He’s managed 18 goals in 80 appearances so far and was a key player in helping the La Liga outfit reach the knockout stages of this seasons Champions League.

It seems his form hasn’t gone unnoticed here in England with the Mail claiming Chelsea and Manchester City are keen on bringing him to the Premier League this summer, but it seems the former champions have stolen a march on their rivals and are now in pole position to secure his signature.

Malaga sporting director Armando Mario Husillos confirmed that the club have held talks with City chief Txiki Begiristain regarding ‘some of their players’:

‘We have [had discussions] with regard to some of our players that may be of interest to Txiki Begiristain, their sporting director.’ Husillos is quoted as saying in the Mail

Although Husillos refused to confirm which players were discussed, the newspaper claims Isco was the main topic of conversation with Roberto Mancini said to be desperate to lure the exciting attacking midfielder to the Etihad Stadium this summer, with Malaga understood to value the Spanish international at £27m.

City’s early move could push Chelsea into action, but owner Roman Abramovich may be forced to sit tight until he finds a permanent replacement for interim boss Rafa Benitez, which may see the west Londoners miss out on Isco if City can tie up a deal quickly.
