Liverpool & United Boosted In Pursuit Of 33-Goal Colombian Hitman

Liverpool and Manchester United have received a boost in their pursuit of Jackson Martinez after the Porto striker rejected the advances of Anzhi Makhachkala

With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool and Man Utd receive a boost in their pursuit of Jackson Martinez.

Liverpool and Manchester United have received a boost in their pursuit of Jackson Martinez after the Porto striker rejected the advances of Anzhi Makhachkala, according to talkSPORT.

Colombian hitman Martinez has become one of the hottest properties in Europe after a sensational debut season with Porto, where he’s scored 33 goals in 38 games so far this campaign since moving from Mexican side Chiapas last summer.

His form seems to have alerted a whole host of clubs with talkSPORT claiming Liverpool and Manchester United have been joined by the likes of Galatasaray and several wealthy Russian clubs in showing a keen interest in signing him.

The English duo have now been boosted with the report suggesting the 26-year-old has rejected the opportunity to move to Russia for ‘sporting reasons’, opening the door to a potential switch to the Premier League.

talkSPORT claim ambitious Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala had a £24m bid for Martinez turned down as it fell short of the strikers £38m buy-out clause, with Porto seemingly set to hold out for top-dollar as they’ve done in the past when selling other South American strikers such as Radamel Falcao or Hulk.

So it appears that Liverpool or United will have to dig deep if they want to lure Martinez away from the Estádio do Dragão any time soon. Reds boss Brendan Rodgers may have his eye on adding to his strike-force this summer but it will be difficult to see the Merseysiders coming up with the kind of money it will take to land Martinez unless they sell star striker Luis Suarez – which is the last thing Liverpool fans would want.

United have a wealth of talent up front but with doubts raised over the future of Wayne Rooney, perhaps Martinez could be viewed as a potential replacement for the unsettled England ace at Old Trafford?
