Barca Ready To Sell £13m-Rated David Villa As Premier League Interest Intensifies

Barcelona will sell David Villa this summer for £13million with Tottenham Hotspur joining Arsenal and Liverpool in showing an interest in the unsettled striker.

With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Spurs will step up their interest in David Villa this summer.

Barcelona will sell David Villa this summer for £13m with Tottenham Hotspur the latest club to show an interest in the unsettled striker, according to the Mirror.

The report claims Arsenal and Liverpool were heavily linked with a move for the Spanish hitman during the January transfer window but were left frustrated after Barca refused to sell and forced the striker to see out the remainder of the season at the Nou Camp.

However, the Catalans are now ready to cash in with the Mirror suggesting the La Liga giants are demanding £13m for his signature – a price tag which may put off Arsenal and Liverpool from following up their interest this summer.

It seems one club who will certainly be in for the 31-year-old is Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham with the newspaper claiming Daniel Levy will make funds available for two strikers this summer and is prepared to pay around £8m for Villa.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is likely to want to add a potent threat to his striking options this summer with the club’s top-four hopes hanging in the balance partly due to the fact Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor have only managed 15 league goals between them so far this season.

You get the feeling the Lillywhites would have Champions League football tied up already if they had a 20-goal a season striker in their squad – although perhaps the same could be said of Arsenal.

Villa has struggled to hold down a regular first team spot since returning from a broken leg and has managed just 14 league starts this campaign, and it seems he may be offered the chance to kick-start his career in the Premier League as he looks to secure more first team football ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
