United Tipped To Renew Interest In Barcelona Starlet

With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Manchester United are linked with Thiago Alcantara.

Manchester United could be set to renew their interest in Thiago Alcantara with Barcelona believed to be willing to listen to offers for the midfielder this summer, according to talkSPORT.

The report claims United have been keen on signing the talented central midfielder over the past two years and have failed twice to land him after Barca refused to sell.

However, despite winning the La Liga title this season the Catalans are expected to make changes to their squad this summer after their embarrassing Champions League exit to Bayern Munich and it seems Alcantara could be one of the players to get the chop.

The 22-year-old has emerged through the youth ranks at the Nou Camp since joining the club in 2005 and made his first team debut in 2009. But he’s only gone on to make 98 appearances for the first team over the past five seasons and it appears his time at the club could be coming to an end this summer.

talkSPORT claim Barcelona are ready to listen to offers and United may renew their interest if new boss David Moyes is as keen as Sir Alex Ferguson was on the youngster. However, the Premier League champions may face stiff competition from Champions League finalists Bayern Munich, with former Barca boss Pep Guardiola understood to be keen on luring the Spanish international to Germany.

With Paul Scholes retiring, doubts over the long-term fitness of Darren Gibson and Anderson tipped to leave, United could be on the look out for midfield reinforcements this summer and Alcantara would certainly add a bit of flair and creativity to the team if they manage to bring him to Old Trafford.
