Chelsea Blow As Falcao Opts For Man City Move After £54m Fee Is Agreed
Chelsea look set to miss out on Radamel Falcao with the player set to join Manchester City after the former champions agreed to pay his £54m buy-out clause.
With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, have Chelsea missed out on Radamel Falcao?
Chelsea look set to miss out on long-term target Radamel Falcao with the player understood to have opted to link up with Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City after the former champions agreed to pay his £54m buy-out clause, according to the Mirror.
The Colombian hitman has become one of the world’s hottest strikers after another impressive season at Atletico Madrid – where he’s now scored 70 goals in 90 games since joining from Porto in 2011.
The Mirror claim Jose Mourinho planned to bring Falcao with him to Stamford Bridge this summer when he’s finally announced as the new Blues boss, with the two men sharing an agent in Jorge Mendes.
However, it seems the west Londoners have missed out with the report suggesting City have agreed to pay the players £54m release clause and Falcao is understood to have made it clear he’d prefer to link up with Pellegrini at the Etihad Stadium once the Chilean is confirmed as Roberto Mancini’s successor.
The newspaper claims that the arrival of Falcao will see Carlos Tevez leave the club with the Argentine having offers from both PSG and Monaco, while Edin Dzeko may also be allowed to leave this summer.
It would represent a major coup for City if they were able to seal a deal for one of the world’s most sought-after players and a real boost for the fans after seeing their team fail to defend their Premier League trophy and lose the FA Cup final to Wigan.
But it will be a huge blow to Chelsea if they miss out on the signing of Falcao and it appears they may need to look elsewhere if they want to sign a new striker this summer.
