Marouane-Chamakh-Arsenal

With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal have opened talks with Julio Cesar’s agent and Marouane Chamakh is linked with a move to Bordeaux.

Cesar talks begin

First up and the Mirror are reporting that Arsenal are in talks with the agent of Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Julio Cesar over a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

A new goalkeeper appears to be on the cards with Arsene Wenger looking to bring in some competition for Wojciech Szczesny – who’s had a difficult season in between the sticks.

The Mirror claims the boss is keeping his eye on Stoke’s Asmir Begovic and Barcelona’s Victor Valdes, but a move for Cesar is gathering pace with the newspaper suggesting we’re already in preliminary talks with the 33-year-old’s agent over a potential move to north London.

Cesar is expected to be sold this summer following QPR’s relegation to the Championship and his experience could be a useful asset in nurturing the raw talent of Szczesny, but we’ll have to wait and see if a deal can be agreed.

Chamakh off?

Next up and Sky Sports News are reporting that Marouane Chamakh could finally be set to end his Premier League nightmare and head back to former club Bordeaux this summer.

The Moroccan enjoyed an encouraging start to life in north London following his free transfer move from Bordeaux in 2010, scoring 10 goals during the first half of his debut season. However, his career has gone off the rails and the 29-year-old endured a failed loan spell at West Ham last season, where he made just three starts.

Sky Sports claim the player is keen on a return to France this summer and while Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud is open to the idea, he insists he won’t discuss the possibility of a deal until somebody gets in touch with him.

“For me, we can talk about a return when the player or his agent picks up the phone and calls me. For now, it does not happen.” Triaud s quoted as saying by Sky Sports

Chamakh was a popular figure with Les Girondins after scoring 61 goals in 251 appearances during his eight-year career at the club and helped them lift the Ligue 1 trophy in 2009 before making the move to England.
