With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Stevan Jovitic and Real Madrid are set to bid £40m for Luis Suarez.

Jovetic wants Juve

Arsenal have suffered a huge blow in their pursuit of Stevan Jovetic with the Daily Star reporting that the Montenegrin international is set to join Juventus. The Gunners have been long linked with the Fiorentina hitman with Arsene Wenger understood to be looking to add another striker to his squad this summer, but it appears he may have to look elsewhere.

The Star claim that Jovetic has a £25m buy-out clause in his contract and he’s expected to snub interest from Arsenal to join his boyhood club Juve this summer. An apparent ‘source’ told the newspaper that the 23-year-old is ‘very unlikely’ to sign for the Gunners as he prefers a move to Turin.

“Arsenal may think they’re going to sign Stevan but it’s very unlikely. He loves living and playing in Italy and prefers Juve.

“For most people in Montenegro, Serie A is the biggest league in football – and more important to them than the English Premier League.” A source told the Star.

Jovetic has emerged as one of the hottest forwards in Europe after hitting 26 goals in 60 Serie A games for Fiorentina over the last two years but it appears he’s set to remain in Italy with the Star suggesting Arsenal will now turn their attention to Wayne Rooney or Christian Benteke.

Real eye £40m Suarez

Next up and the Sun are reporting that Real Madrid are eyeing a £40m move for Luis Suarez after being put off by Edinson Cavani’s £52m buy-out clause.

The Spanish giants are expected to back new boss Carlo Ancelotti in the transfer market this summer and it appears they’ve set their sights on Suarez with the newspaper claiming they have already sounded out the Argentinean’s agent, Pere Guardiola, to make their interest known ahead of a £40m bid.

However, Liverpool are determined to resist any move for their talisman and a senior member of the club told the Sun that they are not interested in selling their star man:

“We will not sell Luis Suarez.

“Brendan Rodgers has said this on several occasions and the club will not entertain any bids be it Real Madrid or anyone else.

“Luis is one of the world’s best players and is not for sale.” A Liverpool source told the Sun

So there’s your latest dose of transfer news. The Jovetic to Juve story has been gathering pace recently and it seems Arsenal may be left disappointed in that race. The striker seems to want to remain in Serie A so Arsene Wenger may need to look at other targets. Which may not be a bad thing as I would say Benteke would be a better buy as he’s proven in the Premier League and is likely to be cheaper as well, but we’ll have to see what the Gunners decide to do this summer.

Liverpool will be expecting interest in Suarez this summer, despite his controversial behaviour, but I’m not sure I trust this apparent ‘source’. Do you really think any senior official from Liverpool would speak to the Sun of all newspapers? Madrid may be interested though and if so, the Reds will no doubt have to fight hard to keep hold of their striker.
