Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain are willing to pay £80m for Tottenham Hotspur ace Gareth Bale, according to the Mirror.

Bale has just come off the back of a sensational season with Spurs that saw him net 19 league goals and pick up a whole host of individual awards including the PFA Player of the Year. However, despite his brilliance, the north Londoners narrowly missed out on a top-four finish and the 23-year-old has subsequently been strongly linked with a move away from White Hart Lane.

The Mirror claim Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain have all made it clear they are prepared to pay a whopping £80m for the Welshman – which would dwarf the £60m bid Real Madrid are believed to be lining up.

While it looks like Spurs are fighting a losing battle in trying to keep hold of Bale over the long-term, there is some good news for Tottenham fans with the newspaper suggesting that chairman Daniel Levy is determined not to lose Bale this summer and despite his agent Jonathan Barnett flirting with Real Madrid on Spanish TV this week, it’s understood the attacker is likely to stay at White Hart Lane for another season before making his big-money move in 12 months time.

The report claims Bale is unlikely to sign a new deal though, as he’ll be able to command more than the £170,000-a-week Spurs are offering, and they suggest Spanish giants Madrid remain favourites to land the former Southampton ace when he does eventually leave north London.

If Tottenham could get another season out of Bale, I’m sure the fans would be delighted. But is there an argument for Spurs cashing in now? Will his value go any higher than it is now and will he be able to have another season like the one he’s just had? It’s doubtful.

If he stays and struggles to recreate his form of the last 12 months, clubs may no longer be knocking at the door with £80m bids, so perhaps it’s in Tottenham’s best interest to cash in now while his value is at it’s peak. Whenever he does leave though, I hope he stays in the Premier League as he’s one of the few world class players we have on these shores and it would be a shame to lose him to La Liga.
