It’s finally happened Chelsea fans; Jose Mourinho has put pen-to-paper on a four-year contract worth a total of £40m to become the new Chelsea manager, according to the Sun newspaper.

Mourinho has been hotly tipped to return to Stamford Bridge this summer after seeing his time at Real Madrid turn sour. The Portuguese coach lead the Spanish giants to the La Liga title in 2011/12 but the wheels fell off after a series of bust-ups with senior members of the Real squad and it was confirmed last week that he would be leaving his post at at the end of the season.

The Sun claim that after weeks of speculation, Mourinho finally signed a four-year deal on Tuesday night worth £10m-per-season after a two-day trip to London, with an apparent ‘source’ telling the newspaper:

“It’s official — Jose is a Chelsea man again! Everyone is delighted he’s coming back — the club, the players and the fans”

“We are already looking forward to next season — we are sure it’s going to be very exciting.”

The 50-year-old was pictured attending the Crystal Palace v Watford play-off final at Wembley on Monday and the report claims he then met up with Blues officials the following day to rubber stamp his emotional return to the Bridge and an official announcement is due early next week after Mourinho takes charge of his final game as Madrid boss at home to Osasuna on Saturday.

He will then bring to an end a turbulent three-year stay at the Bernabeu and be unveiled as Rafa Benitez’ successor, before starting work in early July after a two-week family holiday.

If all goes to plan, the ‘Special One’ will take charge of Chelsea’s pre-season friendly in Thialand against a Singha All Star XI before heading of on a Far East tour of Malaysia and Indonesia. The Blues will then head back to America to take part in the International Champions Cup tournament where he could face former side Real Madrid.

While there is still no confirmation from either Chelsea or Mourinho’s camp, the Sun and several other media outlets are certain it’s a done-deal and his return will be met with jubilation among Chelsea fans who still hold him in high esteem following his hugely successful three-year spell between 2004-2007 when he won six trophies including two Premier League titles.
