Arsenal Transfer News: Wenger Eyes Shock Bayern Raid – Defensive Midfielder Linked

Latest Arsenal transfer rumours. Today, the Gunners are linked with a shock raid on Bayern Munich and a defensive midfielder is also on Arsene Wenger’s radar.

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest Arsenal transfer rumours. Today, the Gunners are linked with a shock raid on Bayern Munich and a defensive midfielder is also on Arsene Wenger’s radar.

Gunners Alaba raid

First up and the Metro are reporting that Arsene Wenger will make a shock move for Bayern Munich ace David Alaba this summer.

The 20-year-old has just come off the back of an excellent season in Germany where he helped Bayern lift the treble. However, the Metro suggest he’s become frustrated at having to play at left-back rather than his preferred central midfield role and Wenger  is ready to try and lure Alaba to the Emirates with the promise of playing him at the heart of his midfield.

The report also says that the Austrian is due to meet with Munich officials to discuss a new contract but if he isn’t given assurances over his long-term playing position then he may be tempted by a switch to the Premier League. Understandably, Bayern are reluctant to sell the versatile youngster but the newspaper suggests they may be prepared to do a deal if we include Laurent Koscielny in negotiations.

This one looks very unlikely to me. Alaba was a key part of last seasons treble winners and even if he is growing frustrated at playing at left back, I can’t see him pushing for a move just yet.

Wenger eyes Ginter

Next up and the Mirror claim Wenger is also lining up a move for up-and-coming German midfielder Matthias Ginter this summer.

The 19-year-old has been impressing in the Bundesliga with Freiburg and the report suggests we’re already in talks over a potential £5m deal for the 6ft 1in defensive midfielder after having him scouted extensively over the past few months.

While Ginter may be another talented youngster, any deal is unlikely to go down too well with a lot of Gooners who are crying out for some house-hold names this summer. The young midfielder would fit the mould of a typical Arsene Wenger signing but he’s unlikely to transform us into genuine title contenders, so hopefully if he is signed he will be a squad player and we also go out and buy a big name.
