Arsene Wenger is prepared to break Arsenal’s transfer record to sign Gonzalo Higuain and he hopes the imminent appointment of Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid will allow him to make his move after holding talks with the players agent over a potential switch, according to the Guardian.

Wenger is expected to add to his strike-force this summer with the Gunners boss understood to have a sizable transfer kitty at his disposal and the report suggests he has already held discussions with Higuain’s representatives over a potential move to the Emirates.

However, Higuain is understood to be reluctant to commit to a move away until he hears what the new managers plans are for him. Real have been managerless since Jose Mourinho left for Chelsea two weeks ago but the Guardian claims that Ancelotti is expected to be announced as his successor in the coming days once his departure from PSG is confirmed.

Madrid have previously stated that Higuain would be made available for transfer this summer with the newspaper claiming the 25-year-old is valued at around £25m, and should Arsenal meet that figure it would smash their current transfer record which is set at the £15m they spent on Andrey Arshavin back in 2009.

I think the Argentinean hitman would be an excellent addition to the squad and would give us something different in attack, so I hope this report is accurate and the boss if finally ready to pay what is required in terms of transfer fee and wages to land a world class talent.
