With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Yaya Sanogo confirms his move to Arsenal following an impressive meeting with Arsene Wenger.

Yaya Sanogo has confirmed his move to Arsenal and claims it was an impressive meeting with Arsene Wenger in a Paris hotel that convinced him to make the move to north London, according to Sky Sports News.

The 20-year-old shot to prominence after scoring 9 goals in just 11 appearances for Auxerre last season and his form saw him called up to the French Under-21 squad. With his contract up this summer, the striker has been tipped to join the Gunners on a free transfer in recent weeks – although Arsenal have so far refused to officially announce any deal.

However, Sanogo has now confirmed that he is set to move to the Emirates Stadium this summer and revealed that he snubbed French outfit Lille after being left impressed by Arsene Wenger following a meeting in a Paris hotel where the boss promised him he would get his opportunities in north London.

“I told my agent the choice would be made between these two clubs. Lille’s coach Rudi Garcia called me all the time. I hesitated a lot.

“Gilles Grimandi [Arsenal scout] came to see me from time to time at Auxerre too. One day he called me for a meeting in a Paris hotel and Arsene Wenger was there. I was very impressed.”

“Wenger told me I would get opportunities and reassured me about my injury. He told me he had followed me for years. That meeting was very important and today I am an Arsenal player,”

“It will be an amazing adventure. I am just eager to start in one of the best leagues in the world. It is a dream that has come true.” Sanogo is quoted as saying by Sky Sports

Sanogo has seen his career derailed by a serious injury in 2010 and it was so severe that the powerful striker considered quitting the game altogether. He continued:

“I wanted to stop. I told myself it was useless to go on and to imperil my health.

“I could not run any longer. I had too much pain, the doctors didn’t know what to do. But, one day I went for a jog and step by step I made my way back.”

While some Arsenal fans will worry about Sanogo’s past injury problems, others feel he’s a risk worth taking due to his immense talent and potential. Let’s just hope he turns out to be more ‘Nicolas Anelka’ and less ‘Abou Diaby’!

Of course his signing is a slight risk but I’m confident he’s not coming to the club to be a regular starter any time soon. He’s one for the future and will most likely be regarded as a fourth choice striker at best next season.
