Liverpool Deny Mkhitaryan Is Set For Medical As £23m Move Hits Snag

Liverpool have denied claims that Henrikh Mkhitaryan was due to undergo a medical today with their proposed £23m move for the attacker now under serious threat

With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest Arsenal transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool’s move for Henrikh Mkhitaryan is in doubt.

Liverpool have denied claims that Henrikh Mkhitaryan was due to undergo a medical on Merseyside today with their proposed £23m move for the attacker now under serious threat, according to the Mirror.

The Reds have been strongly linked with the Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker in recent weeks and the Mirror claim reports  emanating from Russia on Thursday suggested the 24-year-old was due to arrive for a medial on Friday ahead of a switch to Anfield after the club agreed a fee of £23m with the Ukrainian outfit.

However, it seems the deal has hit a late snag with the newspaper suggesting that Liverpool have recently learned that Shakhtar only own a percentage of Mkhitaryan’s rights and with the club sharing his ownership with a business group that invested in the player some years ago.

A Liverpool spokesman refused to be drawn on the exact details of the proposed move but did confirm to the Mirror that there were no plans for the Armenian international to have a medical with the club:

“There are no plans for a medical for the player [Mkhitaryan].”

Shared ownership is common-place in Eastern Europe and South America but it makes negotiations difficult and it appears that Liverpool still have a lot of work to do if they’re to land one of Europe’s most exciting young attackers.
