Some interesting news this afternoon Gooners with the Evening Standard reporting that boss Arsene Wenger is prepared to follow-up his £22m swoop for Gonzalo Higuain with the £23m purchase of Marouane Fellaini from Everton.

The back pages have been filled with speculation suggesting Arsenal are on the verge of buying Argentinean hitman Higuain from Real Madrid, with the Standard suggesting the 25-year-old has agreed personal terms and the deal is now awaiting the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as Jose Mourinho’s successor before the move is finalised.

The newspaper suggests that all parties are confident the transfer will be concluded soon and the spending may now stop there with Wenger also understood to be ready to trigger Marouane Fellaini’s buy-out clause.

The report claims the Belgian ace is looking to leave Goodison Park following the departure of David Moyes and this lead Wenger to push for a deal lower than the players £23m release fee. However, the Toffees are believed to have made it clear they won’t accept a penny less than the buy-out figure and Arsenal are now prepared to meet that amount to bring the giant midfielder to the Emirates this summer.

It would be a stunning £45m double swoop from the Gunners if they are able to land both Higuain and Fellaini and it would certainly represent a statement of intent by the club and show the fans they mean business next season. Personally I’d love to see these two come to north London and I think they could make a real difference and even turn us into genuine title-challengers.
