Madrid Table Huge Gareth Bale Offer, But Arsenal Might Not Be Too Happy About It

The Times newspaper report that Real Madrid have offered Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain to Tottenham as part of a player-plus-cash deal to land Gareth Bale.

Some interesting news coming from the Times newspaper today as they report that Real Madrid have offered Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain to Tottenham as part of a player-plus-cash deal to land Gareth Bale.

Madrid’s interest in the Welshman has been well document over the past few weeks but it seems they have now stepped up their pursuit since confirming Carlo Ancelotti as their new boss on Monday, with the Times claiming the La Liga outfit have offered Spurs out-of-favour striker Higuain, left-back Fabio Coentrao as well as a large sum of money in exchange for Bale’s services.

From Tottenham’s point-of-view the deal will surely be a tempting one, despite their reluctance to lose their star man this summer. Andre Villas-Boas is desperate for a top drawer front man and Higuain certainly fits the bill, while Coentrao would be a useful addition at the back, so if they have to sell Bale why not get a couple of useful players as well as a shed load of money in return?

I’m sure any negotiations with Madrid over Bale will be long an arduous as Daniel Levy is known to be a tough chairman to deal with, but if they could get Higuain and Coentrao into the deal it might work out well for all concerned.

However, Madrid offering out Higuain will be of interest to another club in north London as well, with Arsenal fans sure to be concerned about the news. The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Argentinean in recent weeks and reports have even suggested a deal could be completed within days.

But if Madrid are offering the 25-year-old to Spurs, it suggests a deal with Arsenal can’t be close to completion at all. Gooners everywhere have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the prolific striker but if the Times article is accurate, they may have to put up with seeing him in turning out for Spurs next season and not in the Red & White of Arsenal.
