Bony: Set for Swansea switch

With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea appear to have missed out on the signing of Wilfried Bony and Spurs are set to hold crunch talks with David Villa.

Chelsea miss out on Bony

First up and the Metro are reporting that Chelsea have missed out on the signing of prolific striker Wilfried Bony after he agreed to join Capital One Cup winners Swansea City.

Bony enjoyed a stunning season in Holland last term that saw him score an incredible 37 goals in 36 matches to help Vitesse Arnham finish an unlikely fourth in the Eredivise table.

It appears that form lead to interest from England with the Metro claiming that Chelsea and Newcastle were among the clubs chasing him, however the Swans have pulled off a major coup after agreeing a £10.2m fee with the Dutch outfit and the players agent, Francis Kacou, confirmed his client is on his way to the Libery Stadium:

“Bony will go to Swansea. For how many years? We still have to work out that part. Hopefully more will be clear today.” Kacou is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old becomes Swansea’s second major signing of the summer and the £10.2m outlay will become their record transfer fee. But Chelsea’s search for a new frontman goes on with boss Jose Mourinho expected to add to his strike force this summer as he tries to put together a squad capable of challenging for the league title next season.

Spurs set for Villa talks

Next up and the Daily Mail claim that new Tottenham technical director Franco Baldini will hold talks with Barcelona striker David Villa in the coming days to try and persuade the Spaniard to make the switch to north London.

Villa is currently in Brazil on Confederations Cup duty with Spain and is preparing for tonight’s semi-final against Italy, but the report doesn’t specify whether Baldini will wait until the competition is over before seeking talks with the 31-year-old.

Villa is expected to leave the Nou Camp this summer after a frustrating campaign last season that saw him struggle to hold down a regular first team spot, and Andre Villas-Boas is eager to bring him to White Hart Lane as he looks to re-shape his attacking options this summer.

Emmanuel Adebayor is tipped to leave and the Mail suggest Tottenham are also interested in Valencia striker Roberto Soldado and Internacional forward Leandro Damiao, so it could be a completely new-look front-line at Spurs next season.
