AVB: Trying to hijack Liverpool’s deal

Tottenham Hotspur have made a late attempt to try and hijack Liverpool’s move for £20m-rated Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to the Daily Mail.

Mkhitaryan has emerged as one of the hottest properties in Europe after an excellent season in Ukraine that saw the attacking midfielder put in a string of match winning performances and score 25 goals to help Shakhtar win the title in comfortable fashion.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for the 24-year-old in recent weeks and were thought to be on the verge of sealing a deal worth in the region of £20m.

However, the transfer is now in doubt after the Mail revealed that Tottenham have made a late move for the Armenian international with the north Londoners holding talks with the players advisors over a potential switch to White Hart Lane.

The report suggests that Spurs focus remains on trying to tie up Brazilian midfielder Paulinho but with that deal understood to be close to completion, it appears Andre Villas-Boas is now moving on to other targets with Mkhitaryan firmly in his sights.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been conducting his business early this summer and is expected to press ahead to try and land the playmaker ahead of Tottenham, but the Mail claim that the Premier League pair also face competition from Borussia Dortmund – who’ve apparently had a £19.5m bid turned down with Shakhtar holding out for nearer £25m.

Do u guys really think spurs can afford to pay 25mill for this transfer after they paid 17mill for paulinho they u r mad bcos shakhtar wont take a penny less for him as they r just like daniel levy in terms of negotiation so leave him alone as he is coming to liverpool and we will smack u guys when we meet next time as front three of suarez sturridge mkhtirayan and coutinho behind them.

The stuff is that i knw Spurs are criminals, devicing a strange market strategy. Who can tell why they never assembled scout team to pay them. They bargain on mainly, liverpool spotted players, using the money they would hav spent for the scout team to top the clubs and snatch their target. Hmmmm, this one must fail them as Dempsy and Sigurdson case. YCNWA……

Non story. Just papers being sold. Last time I checked Liverpool finished 8 or 9 th so before anyone gets ‘smacked’ maybe you should talk when your team actually wins games. Dempsey and sig joined us because we are going up and they wanted to be part of that. And they are doing well. Coys

    Bull poop.
Brenden Rodgers has this deal in the palm of his hand. Personally, I couldn’t ask for a better manager. He is quiet and sneaky and full of surprises when it comes to transfers, he keeps a low profile so other clubs can’t hijack any of their deals, and his style of football is fantastic. We have already signed 4 talents and WHEN this Mkhitaryan deal is complete, I expect at least two more signings.
Don’t get your hopes up on deadline day though. If liverpool want players, they can’t stall or there will be hijacks. But overall, I feel it will be a good window.

To the silly Liverpool fans complaining about Spurs not scouting their own targets – two points:

    1. This transfer “story” is almost certainly not true. Spurs have other targets. In all likelihood, this is just a case of agents or journalists fabricating a story. So stop getting your knickers in a twist about it.

    2. Even if Spurs were interested in Mkhitaryan, do you really believe that Spurs (and every other ambitious club in Europe) wouldn’t already know all about him? After all, he had an outstanding season for Shakhtar and played in the Champions League. Furthermore, Spurs were first linked with him back in March, as reported by Izvestia – one of the biggest selling broadsheets in Russia:

So please, Liverpool fans……enough of this nonsense and whinging. Try to engage brains before commenting and understand that, as clubs that are currently at a similar level, it is inevitable that Spurs and Liverpool will be looking at many of the same players.
