Arsenal: Predictions For Next Season – The Trophy Drought Will End!

Here we look ahead to next season and writer Gunner333 predicts how Arsenal will get on in the Premier League, domestic cups and Champions League next campaign

As most fans try to drag themselves away from the torment of reading all the latest transfer news, Gunner333 looks ahead at next season and assesses how he feels Arsenal will get on.

With world-class talent potentially flooding in this Summer, our chances of success could be strengthened ahead of the new campaign. If we manage to get past our Champions league qualifier we will find ourselves in four competitions next season once again. Here I will take a look at our chances and potential finish in each competition.

FA Cup: Quarter Finals & League Cup: Winners

These two competitions  probably provide the greatest chances for us to win a silverware next season, what with the Premier League getting tougher each year and European glory still quite far over the horizon. Last season also proved that anyone has a shout as smaller clubs Wigan and Swansea lifted the domestic honours.

If we manage to get some top class talent through the door then we will certainly fancy our chances and a good cup run could spark a challenge in the league for us through boosted morale. The FA cup will put us under far greater pressure than the Capital One cup and its more important fixtures come at a time of the season when we will be fatigued. The Capital One Cup looks a better bet though as we will be in better fitness and it is a competition valued less than its domestic counterpart by the ‘big’ clubs.

Champions League: Last 16

This competition is really based around the draw. In recent years we have drawn the short straw, facing clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Providing we avoid the stronger clubs in the qualifiers, then we will be aiming to win the group and, unlike previous years, play a weaker side in the last 16. There will be optimism for some Gooners though. Two seasons back Chelsea were in a downwards spiral and were losing league form fast, but the blues put that behind them and masterminded one of the greatest European triumphs of all time. To repeat this feat we would have to be very clinical but also have some luck along the way! Sadly, I can see us falling at a familiar hurdle again next season.

Premier League: 3rd

Some will be surprised with this prediction but I believe this is a realistic finish, weighing ourselves up against our rivals. United, City and Chelsea all changed manager at the end of the season and could be unsettled. With Fergie gone I see the Red Devils falling to second. Whilst Chelsea should be guided to a league title with Mourinho at the helm. City however will most probably be in a tough position and now have a manager with no Premier League experience. We will be settled and hopefully strengthened. If we are able to pick up some more points against the top 6 then we may even outdo my prediction, but for now I see both United and Chelsea being too strong for us.

So all-in-all that would make for a very good season I think, and hopefully we can end our much talked about trophy drought! Thanks for reading and feel free to comment below.
