Marouane Fellaini Fears Dream Arsenal Move Is Dead

According to the Independent, Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini fears his ‘dream’ move to Arsenal is dead because Arsene Wenger has other priorities in mind.

Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini fears his ‘dream’ move to Arsenal is dead because Arsene Wenger has other priorities in mind, according to the Independent.

With the Frenchman believed to be armed with up to £70m to spend this summer, we’ve been linked with a whole host of marquee names in recent weeks, with reports suggesting Everton’s giant Belgian international is one of a number of key targets for Arsenal.

However, as yet there has been no official movement in the transfer market and much of the gossip in recent days has centered around Arsenal trying to sign two strikers, namely Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain, while any talk of signing Fellaini has all-but disappeared from the back pages.

The Independent claim that Fellaini is now fearing his ‘dream’ move to Arsenal will not go through this summer as he feels the boss will only buy him if he’s got enough money left over after buying at least one world class striker.

The report suggests the Belgian international has a £23.5m buy-out clause in his contract but that expires on August 15th, so unless Wenger manages to bring in his new striker within budget before that date, any proposed move for Fellaini is likely to be off.

I understand we have a set budget to work to and big-money signings can take time, but I’ll be devastated if we end up missing out on Fellaini, particularly if we also don’t bring in a big name striker before the start of the new season.

We’ve been crying out for a powerful presence in midfield for years and Fellaini would fit the bill perfectly. He’s also got bags of Premier League experience and is the type of signing that would show we mean business next season.

Amid all the talk of moves for the likes of Suarez or Higuain, we shouldn’t overlook other targets who are far more accessible, such as Fellaini. Ideally we could get a world class striker AND Fellaini on board in the coming weeks, now that would be a real statement of intent by the club, but I won’t hold my breath….
