Move Rumours Intensify As Rooney Flies Home Early From Pre-Season Tour With Supposed Injury
Wayne Rooney has sent the rumour mill in to overdrive on Thursday night after flying home early from Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the Far East.
Wayne Rooney sent the rumour mill into overdrive on Thursday night after flying home early from Manchester United’s pre-season tour of Asia, with the club claiming he’s suffered a hamstring injury.
The champions only flew out to Thailand for the first leg of their tour on Wednesday evening but Rooney is already on his way back to England after supposedly suffering a hamstring injury during the early stages of their first training session on Thursday.
United are claiming he’s set to be out of action for around a month – which just happens to coincide with the start of the new season with United due to face Wigan in the Community Shield on the 11th August. A short statement on United’s official website read:
“Following a scan this evening on a hamstring injury sustained in training, it has been decided that Wayne Rooney should return home immediately for further assessment and rehabilitation.
“It is anticipated he will be unavailable for selection for a month.”
While there is no evidence to suggest Rooney’s ‘injury’ is anything other than sheer bad luck or coincidence, it hasn’t stopped fans (mainly Arsenal and Chelsea fans!) on social media sites claiming there’s more to it. Some are suggesting the injury is a cover-up and the striker is heading back to the UK to push through a move, while others feel there could have been some sort of bust-up.
This all comes at a time when Rooney’s future at United has come under the microscope with reports in recent weeks claiming he wants out of Old Trafford this summer with Arsenal and Chelsea said to be keen on offering him a fresh start.
David Moyes is adamant Rooney won’t be leaving the club this summer but the strikers premature departure from the clubs pre-season tour has only added fuel to the fire that he could be set for a move. London calling? We’ll have to wait and see….
