United Step Up Fabregas Pursuit But Arsenal In Pole Position Due To £25m Clause

Man Utd will step up their interest in Cesc Fabregas after missing out on Thiago Alcantara but Arsenal will have first option to buy the midfielder for £25m.

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Man Utd are ready to press ahead with their interest in Cesc Fabregas.

Barcelona-Cesc-Fabregas

Manchester United will step up their interest in Cesc Fabregas after missing out on Thiago Alcantara but Arsenal will have first option to buy the midfielder due to a £25m buy-back clause, according to the Independent.

David Moyes suffered a huge blow after Bayern Munich won the race to sign Alcantara, with the German giants agreeing a £21.5m deal with Barca for the 22-year-old midfielder on Sunday evening.

The report claims that United will now increase their efforts to land former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, who could cost in the region of £34million if Barcelona decide it’s time to cash in.

However, the champions may need to fend off competition from Arsenal with the Independent claiming the Gunners are in pole position to re-sign their former skipper due to a buy-back clause they inserted into his contract when they sold him two years ago that gives them first refusal with the ability to sign the 26-year-old for a fixed fee of just £25m.

Whether Barcelona will be willing to sell Fabregas this summer remains to be seen, particularly after losing Alcantara, but it appears that United are ready to test their resolve over the coming weeks. Moyes is desperate to add some much-needed creativity to the center of his midfield and Fabregas – who spent eight years in north London before re-joining his boyhood club in 2011 – would fit the bill perfectly.

Fabregas could be open to a move after struggling to establish himself as an important first team player at the Nou Camp with the midfielder regularly finding himself among the substitutes during key fixtures and even when he does start, he’s often deployed in a more advanced striker role rather than his preferred position at the center of midfield.

With the 2014 World Cup next summer, Fabregas may decide it’s best he moves on in search of first team football if he’s to have any chance of breaking into the Spanish national team starting eleven, and it appears he could be heading back to the Premier League with both Arsenal and Man Utd possible destinations.
