Arsenal ‘Likely’ To Meet £40m Suarez ‘Release Clause’ As Agent Pushes For Move
Arsenal will table a new £40million offer for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez as the players agent urges clubs to come forward and meet the strikers ‘release clause’.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, the latest on Luis Suarez’s protracted exit from Liverpool.
Arsenal are expected to table a new and improved £40 million offer for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez over the coming days as the terms of the players contract are set to be tested, according to the Telegraph.
The report claims Arsenal’s original £30m offer – which was rejected last week – included several add ons that would see the figure rise to £35m based on appearances and Suarez’s success at the Emirates.
The Gunners are expected to table a fresh bid this week and the Telegraph suggests that Arsene Wenger is now ‘likely’ to sanction a £40m offer given the fact the original bid would have hit the £35m mark. What a £40m bid would mean remains unclear, though. Liverpool insist they will be under no obligation to sell if that figure is met, as they believe it simply means they have to inform the striker of the approach.
However, the Daily Mail claim that Suarez’s agent has been urging Arsenal – any other interested party – to come forward with a £40m offer as they believe such a bid would effectively trigger a release clause in the players contract and he would therefore be in control of his Anfield exit.
The Uruguayan is expected to link up with the rest of the Liverpool squad in Melbourne next Monday and should Arsenal submit a £40m over the coming days, things could get messy as the exact details of the 26-year-old’s contract will finally be tested.
There is the concern that given the fact Suarez is banned for the opening six games of the season, clubs are in no hurry to resolve his future, so this transfer saga could be one that goes right up until deadline day.
