Manchester United have launched a record £60m move for Tottenham star Gareth Bale as new boss David Moyes aims to give the club a major boost with a big-money spending spree, according to the Mirror.

Moyes is mindful that the fans need reassurance that the club is heading in the right direction following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, while the Wayne Rooney saga has also cast a shadow over Old Trafford in recent days, and it seems for former Everton boss is ready to give everybody a boost by splashing the cash.

The Mirror claim his first priority is to try and land last years PFA Football of the Year, Gareth Bale, and the Welshman is thought to be the reason chief executive Ed Woodward flew back early from the clubs pre-season tour of Australia.

While Spurs have so far resisted any attempts to lure Bale away from White Hart Lane, the report claims Moyes is going to go all-out to try and sign the 23-year-old and is also hoping to bring in Cesc Fabregas as well as one other big name signing to soften the blow of Wayne Rooney’s expected move to Chelsea.

United’s neighbours Manchester City have been busy in the transfer market this summer and the return of Jose Mourinho to Stamford Bridge, as well as the potential arrival of Rooney, is sure to make Chelsea serious title-challengers next season, so United know they need to make a statement to keep them ahead of the chasing pack.

Signing Bale would certainly do that but it’s not going to be easy with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy sure to drive a hard bargain for the north Londoners prized asset and they’ll do everything they can to hang on to the Welsh winger this summer.
