Soldado – on AVB’s radar

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Spurs are understood to have tabled a £20m bud for Roberto Soldado, while Liverpool have failed to strike a deal for winger Christian Atsu.

Spurs table £20m bid

First up and the Daily Star are reporting that Tottenham tabled an improved bid for Valencia striker Roberto Soldado on Thursday night.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas seems intent on adding to his strike-force this summer and the Star claims he’s already seen a £17m bid for Soldado rejected by Valencia, with the Spaniard’s insistent any interested party must meet the strikers £30m release clause.

However, the newspaper suggests the north Londoners have returned with an improved £20m offer, and while that figure is still well below the players buy-out fee, chairman Daniel Levy hopes this will be enough to persuade the cash-strapped La Liga outfit into cashing-in on their prized asset.

Valencia are one of several Spanish clubs who’re struggling financially but president Amadeo Salvo insists they wont be bullied into selling Soldado on the cheap:

“The English team knows the situation. Valencia needs money. But we don’t have to sell our best player.” Salvo is quoted as saying by the Star.

The Star suggest Soldado is in line to double his current wage if he makes the move to White Hart Lane but Valencia are still confident they can persuade him to stay and will hold talks about his future on Monday.

Liverpool end Atsu pursuit

Next up and talkSPORT are reporting that Liverpool have ended negotiations with Porto after failing to agree a fee for winger Christian Atsu.

The Merseysiders have been showing a strong interest in the 21-year-old this summer with Brendan Rodgers seemingly keen to bring him to the Premier League. However, talkSPORT suggest that after weeks of negotiations, talks have now ended between the two clubs after Porto rejected the Reds £3.4m offer.

The Ghanaian international is understood to have been open to a move but Liverpool appear unwilling to up their bid and match Porto’s asking price, so a move to Anfield now looks unlikely.
