Soldado Tells Club He Wants Tottenham Move But Liverpool Remain In The Hunt

Roberto Soldado has told Valencia he wants to join Tottenham but league rivals Liverpool remain in the hunt with the north Londoners struggling to agree a fee

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, more on Roberto Soldado’s future.

Roberto Soldado has told Valencia he wants to join Tottenham but Premier League rivals Liverpool remain in the hunt with the north Londoners struggling to agree a fee, according to reports today.

The Mirror claim that Spurs are set to reopen negotiations with Valencia for the striker after failing to reach an agreement following negotiations on Monday. Sporting Director Franco Baldini held face-to-face talks with the Spanish outfit but refused to meet the players £26m buy-out clause, with Spurs understood to have bid £22m.

The newspaper suggests that Soldado has now informed his club he wants to seal a move to White Hart Lane in the hope that they will lower their demands, but the La Liga outfit have so far refused to do business for anything less than his buy-out fee.

Liverpool are understood to be keeping a close eye on the situation and have earmarked the 28-year-old as a potential replacement for unsettled hitman Luis Suarez. Reports suggest the Reds will be willing to meet his £26m asking price but any move will be delayed until the future of Suarez is resolved.

However, Spurs and Liverpool are running out of time to conclude a deal with Valencia president Amadeo Salvo insisting that negotiations must be completed by Saturday 3rd August otherwise the player will remain with them for another season.

“If any club wants our striker they are obliged to accept our conditions. And the price on the market has a clause. Until August 3, we accept that a deal may happen and we can negotiate. But after that date, he will not leave us.” Salvo is quoted as saying by the Mirror.

The Mirror suggest the Spanish club want it resolved by that date for tax purposes while it would also give them adequate time to find a replacement, so if Salvo is going to strictly enforce this deadline it gives the clubs just over a week to find an agreement.

With 193 goals in 397 games during a prolific career, Soldado is almost guaranteed to bring goals wherever he plays so he’d certainly be a useful addition for either Andre Villas-Boas or Brendan Rodgers to have at their disposal, but whether either manager will be able to strike a deal and lure him to England remains to be seen.
