Valencia are interested in signing Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud as a replacement for Tottenham-bound Roberto Soldado, according to reports in Spain.

Spurs appear set to break their transfer record for the second time this summer after reports suggested they had agreed a fee to sign Spanish striker Soldado from Valencia this summer.

Soldado’s move to White Hart Lane will leave the La Liga outfit with a huge hole to fill and it seems they may be ready to raid Tottenham’s north London rivals Arsenal as they look to find a suitable replacement.

Valencia-based radio station Cadena Ser claims the club have set their sights Gunners hitman Olivier Giroud who has just enjoyed a relatively successful debut season in the Premier League following his move from Montpellier last summer.

The 26-year-old scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists in 47 games in all competitions last season but his playing time at the Emirates could be hampered severely if Arsenal are successful in trying to bring in a marquee striker this summer.

Arsene Wenger is expected to go back with an improved offer for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez having already seen two bids turned down and if the Frenchman manages to lure the Uruguayan to Arsenal before the transfer window closes, it could see Giroud out in the cold.

However, it’s highly unlikely Wenger will be looking to sell the France international after just one year as he offers something different in attack and would provide the north Londoners with a useful option from the bench if they do bring in Suarez this summer, so I can’t see Giroud making the switch to Valencia any time soon.
