Eagles Linked With Move For Arsenal Flop

Newly promoted Crystal Palace are ready to offer Arsenal flop Marouane Chamakh the chance to rejuvenate his career in England by offering him a six-month loan.

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Crystal Palace eye Marouane Chamakh.

Marouane-Chamakh-Arsenal

Newly promoted Crystal Palace are ready to offer Arsenal flop Marouane Chamakh the chance to rejuvenate his career in England by offering him a six-month loan deal, according to reports today.

The Moroccan has struggled to settle in north London since moving from Bordeaux three years ago on a free transfer and has been told he’s free to find a new club this summer.

Chamakh only made 4 appearances for the Gunners last season, all in the cup competitions, and spent the second half of the season on loan at West Ham where he failed to score in his 3 appearances.

He’s been strongly linked with a move back to France this summer but it seems he could now be offered the chance to remain in England, with the Sun claiming newly-promoted Crystal Palace want to sign him on an initial six-month loan after going cold on a deal to sign Carton Cole.

Eagles boss Ian Holloway is ready to make an approach for the 29-year-old with an apparent ‘source’ telling the newspaper:

“Chamakh’s now top of the manager’s wish-list.

“He wants a targetman to compliment Dwight Gayle and Chamakh fits the bill. Holloway feels he can bring the best out of him and has always rated him.

“The plan is to bring him in for six months and see how the move works out. By that time Glenn Murray should be back fit and in contention.”

However, a major stumbling block for any potential deal is likely to be the strikers £65,000-a-week wages. Unless the Moroccan agrees to take a pay-cut or Palace can strike a deal with Arsenal over paying a percentage of his salary, a move is likely to prove difficult.

Arsene Wenger has been successful in cutting the majority of the clubs ‘deadwood’ so far this summer, with Chamakh and Nicolas Bendtner arguably the only two players we need to find new clubs for now that Gervinho is on the verge of joining Roma. But I don’t see Palace being able to afford Chamakh and a six month loan isn’t ideal anyway, we need to try and get rid of him on a permanent basis this time.
