Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will reluctantly agree to sell Gareth Bale to Real Madrid but wants a world record fee and Luka Modric in return, according to the Mirror.

The Spaniards have been public with their desire to land the PFA Player of the Year this summer but Spurs have remained determined to hang on to their star man, with Levy and boss Andre Villas-Boas insisting Bale wasn’t for sale at any price.

However, the Mirror are one of several media outlets who’re reporting today that the north Londoners stance has now softened but they are demanding a fee in excess of £80m PLUS former midfielder Luka Modric in exchange for the 24-year-old.

It would be a stunning deal if Madrid agree and it would easily value Bale at well over £100m, with Modric joining Madrid only 12 months ago for £33m.

The La Liga outfit have so far offered left-back Fabio Coentrao and winger Angel Di Maria to Spurs, but it’s Modric they appear to want despite his acrimonious departure from White Hart Lane last summer and t’s believed the Croatian may be open to a return to north London.

The 27-year-old has failed to establish himself as a first team regular at the Bernabeu and was voted as the worst buy of last season by readers of Marca.

It remains to be seen whether Madrid president Florentino Perez will sanction the deal Tottenham have proposed but Carlo Ancelotti’s No.2, Zinedine Zidane, vowed the club will stop at nothing until they get their man.

“We will not stop.”

“We will not give up on Gareth Bale. It is normal that Tottenham want to keep him and make him sign a new contract, but it is impossible to forget a player of his quality.” Zidane is quoted as saying by the Mirror

Bale returned to training today after being given two days off following Tottenham’s pre-season trip to Asia and his fitness will be assessed after a buttock injury kept him out of their last two games, and you wouldn’t be surprised if he knocked on AVB’s door to seek talks over his future as Madrid’s interest intensifies.
