Chelsea and Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Alexis Sanchez with Barcelona insisting the Chilean international is not for sale this summer, according to reports today.

The 24-year-old moved to Barca from Udinese in 2011 and after an impressive debut season has struggled to live up to his past form and regularly found himself out of Tito Vilanova’s starting eleven last campaign, leading to question marks over his future.

Chelsea and Liverpool have both been linked with a move for the exciting attacker this summer with the duo understood to be keen on bringing him to the Premier League.

However, Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu claims the Catalans have no intention of selling Sanchez and insists he’s still firmly in their plans for next season.

“Alexis is not for sale. We trust in his ability. It has long been speculated that he may leave, but not since he arrived at the club have we received a proposal.

“He will continue with us. We are pleased with his performances and we will not make him available in the transfer market.” Bartomeu is quoted as saying in the Daily Star

New Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has already signed Andre Schurrle and Marco van Ginkel this summer while Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku are also going to be given a shot at the first team this season, and the Portuguese coach has hinted that the only signing he’s looking to make before the window closes is Wayne Rooney, so the Blues may not be too disappointed that Sanchez is now unavailable.

Liverpool on the other hand seen like they’re still very-much in the market, particularly for attack-minded players, with Brendan Rodgers reported to have tabled a £21.8m bid for Brazilian attacker Diego Costa this week.
