Transfer News: Arsenal Hope To Finally Land Suarez With Record £51m Bid

Arsenal will look to finally land want-away striker Luis Suarez by tempting Liverpool’s resolve with a record £51million offer, according to reports today.

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal are ready to table an improved bid for Luis Suarez.

Arsenal will look to finally land want-away striker Luis Suarez by tempting Liverpool’s resolve with a record £51m offer, according to reports today.

After weeks of speculation, the Uruguayan finally broke his silence in a hard-hitting interview with the Telegraph on Tuesday night where he accused Liverpool of failing to honor the terms of his contract after rejecting Arsenal’s£40,000,001 bid two weeks ago.

The 26-year-old claims he has both a verbal and written agreement with the club that he would be allowed to leave this summer if a bid of £40m or more was offered by a club in the Champions League if the Reds failed to finish in the top-four.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers hit back last night by slamming the striker for showing the club a lack of respect and has ordered him to train alone, but the former Ajax man told the Telegraph that he’s prepared to take his case to the Premier League and has already called in the help of the PFA to try and resolve the dispute.

PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor confirmed yesterday that the clause in the players contract can be interpreted in different ways and if the case is taken before a Premier League arbitration panel, it’s likely to take some time before they come to a verdict and it will probably drag past the close of the transfer window. He told talkSPORT:

“These buy-out clauses have caused no end of problems in the past and continue to do so.

“He believes the £40m amount that is mentioned, if that is offered, gives him the right to go.

“Liverpool are saying that is a minimum figure from which they will consider negotiation and of course they will want to keep the player, unless they replace the player with someone as good or better, which is not going to be easy in a short period of time.

“There are different ways it can be interpreted. If it goes to the Premier League, it will take time and the window is then closed. It is a delicate situation.”

The Daily Star claim that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was prepared to wait to see how the situation played out, saying the pursuit was on ‘standby’ on Tuesday morning. However, with things looking likely to run into September as lawyers wrangle over the exact wording of the strikers clause, the newspaper suggests that Wenger is now concerned he may not get his man this summer and has decided it’s time to test Liverpool’s resolve with a huge £51m bid.

That figure is much closer to the numbers Liverpool have suggested could tempt them and should it be successful, it would break the British transfer record set when Chelsea paid Liverpool £50m for Fernando Torres in January 2011.

With Liverpool taking a hard-line approach, it’s seems the only way Arsenal will get Suarez this summer is if they table an offer too good for them to refuse and if the Star is correct, £51m is sure to tempt them. Suarez’s position at Anfield could be described as untenable following his claims against the club so the Merseysiders may be more receptive to the idea of selling, but I’m sure they’ll do all they can to prevent him going to the Emirates with Arsenal seen as their major competition for a top-four finish next season.
