Mourinho Vows To Fight ‘Until The Last Day’ To Sign Rooney As Blues Eye Third Bid

Jose Mourinho has vowed to fight until the last day of the window to try and sign Wayne Rooney as the Blues prepare to test United’s resolve with a third bid.

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Jose Mourinho is ready to fight to land Wayne Rooney.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has vowed to fight until the last day of the transfer window to try and sign Wayne Rooney as the Blues prepare to test United’s resolve with a third bid, according to the Guardian.

The report claims Mourinho is desperate to bring the 27-year-old to Stamford Bridge this summer and has already seen two bids turned down by the champions – the latest believed to be worth £25m – with David Moyes insisting the striker is not for sale this summer.

The newspaper suggests Rooney is expected to hand in a formal transfer request in order to push through a move to west London and when he does, the Blues will submit an improved third offer to United’s resolve further.

Chelsea were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid in the final of Guinness International Champions Cup yesterday and Mourinho said after the game that the club are working in an ethical way and he is ready to fight until the last day in order to bring Rooney to the Bridge.

“We are far away so we are not in England to know every detail but we are doing things in the correct way,”

“We made the bid and Manchester United have reacted. Let’s see what happens. But we can’t do more than we are doing now.

“We are doing things legally, making the official bid directly to the club, no interviews or comments or direct relations with the player, no contact, absolutely nothing. We are doing everything in an ethical way, so let’s see if things change.

“There is no time limit. We have our squad of strikers. We have identified the player as one we would like to have with us. We have done it in an ethical way and we are going to do that until the last day. And we will see how it comes.” Mourinho told the Guardian

Rooney has made clear his desire to leave the champions this summer and has been training with the reserves this week and is expected to miss Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial tonight with a minor ‘injury’.

So it seems Chelsea are not giving up the hunt without a fight and it will be interesting to see how this one turns out. Rooney has just two years left on his current deal and is unlikely to sign an extension if he’s forced to remain at Old Trafford against his wishes, so United run the risk of losing out financially if they don’t sell this summer.

However, it would be suicidal for Moyes to sell to a direct title rival such as Chelsea, so it leaves the situation finely balanced as we approach the final three weeks of the summer window.
