Luis Suarez is refusing to apologise for publicly stating he wants to leave Liverpool as Arsenal hope for peace talks ahead of tabling an improved bid for the striker, according to the Mirror.

The controversial Uruguayan went public with his desire to leave Anfield last week claiming the club had reneged on a promise to let him leave if a club in the Champions League came in with a bid in excess of £40m, insisting he’s both a verbal and written agreement.

Liverpool are adamant this is not the case and with no resolution in sight, the Mirror claim that Arsene Wenger is hoping to arrange peace talks with the Arsenal boss still hopeful that a deal will go through before deadline day.

The Merseysiders have been insistent that Suarez would not be sold this summer with owner John W Henry saying last week selling the the Gunners would be ‘ludicrous’, and boss Brendan Rodgers has forced the striker to train on his own and demanded an apology before he’ll be allowed to rejoin the rest of the squad.

“There needs to be an apology to his team-mates and to the club and once we get that commitment that he is ready then we will have the player we have always had.” Rodgers is quoted as saying by the Mirror.

However, the newspaper suggests that the 26-year-old believes his relationship with Rodgers is now beyond repair and is refusing to say sorry as he feels betrayed that his boss has failed to live up to his promise of letting him leave this summer.

Arsenal are aware of the situation and the report claims Wenger is now lining-up an improved offer to try and test Liverpool resolve and it’s likely the north Londoners feel the Anfield clubs hard-line approach over not selling is just part of the ‘transfer game’, as similar words were spoken before Fernando Torres was sold to Chelsea in 2011.

So this saga looks like it’s set to continue and you get the feeling it will drag out until the final hours of the transfer window. It’s difficult to say how it’s going to turn out but with just 3 weeks left until the window slams shut, we don’t have long to wait until we find out.
