Benfica Ezequiel Garay

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Samuel Eto’o wants to move to Chelsea in order to link up with Jose Mourinho and Manchester United risk missing out on a top transfer target.

Eto’o wants Chelsea move

First up and the Daily Mail are reporting that Samuel Eto’o is keen to move to Chelsea this summer in order to link up with former boss Jose Mourinho.

The Cameroon international is one of several big names who’ve been made available for transfer by Anzhi Makhachkala with the clubs owner keen to cut the Russian outfit’s hefty wage bill. The Mail claim Chelsea are one of several club’s monitoring his situation and now the player himself has opened the door to a move to west London after admitting he’d love to play under Mourinho again.

‘There is only one Jose Mourinho. I have played under a lot of great coaches – but there is no other character in the game like Jose.

‘He is one of the best coaches in the world – and we had a lot of success together at Inter Milan. I would like to have the chance to play under him again – because it is never boring when Jose is around.

‘Of course Chelsea are a great team – and when we have all the offers on the table then I will discuss with my agent and see what my next step is.’ Eto’o is quoted as saying by the Mail

The 32-year-old won the Champions League with Mourinho at Inter Milan in 2010 and with the Blues so far frustrated in their pursuit of Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, they could turn their attention to Eto’o who’s set to leave Anzhi after two years in Russia.

United must pay £21.5m for Garay

Next up and the Daily Star are reporting that Manchester United risk losing out on defender Ezequiel Garay unless they pay Benfica’s £21.5m asking price in full.

The newspaper claims that United were close to signing the 26-year-old centre-back with the player believed to have travelled to Manchester to house hunt with his family, while Benfica have already signed his replacement in Lisandro Lopez.

However, it seems the deal is now on the verge of collapse with the report suggesting that the two clubs are at odds over the payment structure of the transfer fee. United are only offering to pay £12.9m up front with further payments based on how well Garay does at Old Trafford, but the Portuguese outfit are demanding the full £21.5m is paid up front.

The stale mate appears to have taken it’s tole on Garay with the defender recently saying that he’s fed up with the constant speculation and is now fully focussed on Benfica.

“I am tired of the rumours. I am just focused on Benfica and I will keep working hard. I have heard nothing official from United.” Garay is quoted as saying by the Star.
