Hope For Arsenal? Wolfsburg Confirm Gustavo Yet To Decide On Future

There may still be hope for Arsenal in their pursuit of Luiz Gustavo with Wolfsburg confirming that the midfielder has not agreed to join them just yet.

With the summer transfer window in full swing, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today,  could Arsenal have been handed a lifeline in their pursuit of Luiz Gustavo?

There may still be hope for Arsenal in their pursuit of Luiz Gustavo with Wolfsburg confirming that the midfielder hasn’t agreed to join them just yet, according to Goal.

Reports on Wednesday claimed that the 26-year-old Brazilian international had snubbed a move to the Emirates Stadium in favour of staying in Germany as Wolfsburg were able to offer him guaranteed first team football.

Kicker also suggested that Arsene Wenger was refusing to match the German clubs €20m offer and Gustavo was expected to be announced as a Wolfsburg player before the weekend.

However, it seems those reports may have been a little premature with Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking revealing that while further talks are expected, he claims that they ‘hope’ Gustavo will choose to join them over the several other clubs that are interested.

“We can’t confirm the transfer yet. He has been with the Selecao, so we haven’t had more talks.

“But we hope he will decide for Wolfsburg. Of course we know there are several other clubs interested.” Hecking is quoted as saying by Goal.

So while Gustavo may yet elect to remain in the Bundesliga, it seems we might still have an outside chance of making the defensive midfielder our first major signing of the summer.

It appears as though first team football is vital to the player as he wants to secure a place in the Brazil squad at next summers World Cup, so if we haven’t given him assurances he’ll play ever week, it’s understandable if he decides not to join.

However, if it turns out the reason we miss out (if we do) is that Wenger has refused to pay the going rate, I fear the boss is in for another backlash from the fans.

**UPDATE** It seems that Wolfsburg may have won the race with reports suggesting they’ve called a press conference for 12pm local time where the signing of Gustavo is expected to be confirmed.
