Arsenal’s £10m Cabaye Bid Rejected As PSG Eye Midfielder

Newcastle have rejected a bid of around £10m from Arsenal for midfielder Yohan Cabaye – who is also attracting interest from big-spending Paris Saint Germain

With the summer transfer window in full swing, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Newcastle reject Arsenal’s £10m bid for Yohan Cabaye.

Newcastle United have rejected a bid of around £10m from Arsenal for midfielder Yohan Cabaye – who is also attracting interest from big-spending Paris Saint Germain, according to Sky Sports News.

The Gunners have endured a frustrating summer so far with Arsene Wenger only able to bring in one new signing so far – the free transfer of Yaya Sanogo – despite having a sizeable transfer kitty at his disposal.

The Arsenal fans voiced their concern after the clubs 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday and it seems that loss may have forced Wenger into the market with reports today of a move for Newcastle’s Cabaye.

Sky Sports claim an opening bid of £10m has been rejected by the Geordies and we could now face stiff competition for his signature from big-spending Paris Saint Germain. The French giants, now managed by former France coach Laurent Blanc, have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old and Blanc admitted after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Ajaccio that he ‘loves’ the midfielder.

“We’re still interested in buying more players. Cabaye? There are a lot of things that you [journalists] write in the press.

“At the moment I can only say that I love this player.” Blanc is quoted as saying by Sky Sports

Cabaye joined Newcastle from Lille in 2011 and has been a huge success in the Premier League. A bid of £10m is hopefully just a starting point as we were never going to get him for that amount, but personally I don’t think he’s worth more than £15m. He’s certainly not the powerful midfield destroyer we desperately need. I’d see him more as a replacement for Mikel Arteta, but we also require a ‘proper’ defensive midfielder to protect the back-four.

So I’d welcome Cabaye, but only at the right price, and we know Wenger won’t pay over the odds anyway. Let’s see how the next few days go but it seems we could finally be about to see some activity in north London.
