Chelsea saw off a dogged Aston Villa side thanks to a second half winner from defender Branislav Ivanovic – who was lucky to be on the pitch when he scored.

The hosts took the lead early on when Eden Hazard’s shot rebounded off Luna and past Guzan in the Villa goal, before the visitors then levelled on the stroke of half time when Benteke fired home for 1-1. Ivanovic was then booked for an elbow on Benteke, with the Villa players adamant it should have been red, and the Serbian then headed home the winner minutes later.
