Champions Manchester United welcome table-topping Chelsea to Old Trafford on Monday night for the first big clash of the new Premier League season.

Ahead of the game, new United boss David Moyes has given ManUtd.com a team news and injury update with the latest on Rafael, Nani, Ashley Young and Javier Hernandez.

Right-back Rafael was forced off against Wigan in the Community shield two weeks ago with a hamstring strain and Moyes has confirmed the Brazilian will be out for a further three or four weeks. Phil Jones filled in against Swansea and is expected to do so again against Chelsea.

Nani, Young and Hernandez have all been on the sidelines for several weeks and Moyes also confirmed today that the trio are slowly working their way back to full fitness, but he feels he has the squad to cope with his current injury problems.

He told the clubs official website:

“Rafa picked up an injury in the Community Shield game so we’ve lost him for three or four weeks,” Moyes told reporters. “We have one or two coming back from injury – the likes of Nani, Ashley Young and Chicharito. They’re still recovering.

“So we’ve got two or three coming back from really the effects of not having a proper pre-season because they came back from international duty a bit late. Hopefully they’ll all not too far away now.

“We’ve got a really squad here and we’re able to cope if you do get injuries. But it’s only just a case of getting then up to speed because they’ve missed pre-season.”

The game will be Moyes’s first competitive game at Old Trafford since taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer and it will see him welcome Jose Mourinho back to Manchester after the Portuguese coach returned to Chelsea this summer.

The Blues are already setting the early pace in the league having won both their opening two games, including a rearranged fixture against Aston Villa in midweek, so United will be keen not to loss and let the gap open to six points so early on in the season.
