Ozil Appreciates Arsenal & Man Utd Interest But Rules Out Move

Midfielder Mesut Ozil says he ‘appreciates’ interest from Arsenal and Manchester United but insists he has no intention of leaving Real Madrid this summer.

As we enter the final stages of the summer transfer window, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal and Man Utd receive a blow in their pursuit of Mesut Ozil.

Mesut-Ozil

Mesut Ozil says he ‘appreciates’ interest from Arsenal and Manchester United but insists he has no intention of leaving Real Madrid this summer, according to the Independent.

The German playmaker has seen his future at the Bernabeu called into question in recent weeks with reports suggesting he may be sold to make room for Gareth Bale when he finally completes his protracted move to Madrid, and speculation increased further when he stormed down the tunnel after being substituted in Madrid’s 1-0 win at Granada on Monday night.

Arsenal and Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for the 24-year-old with both Arsene Wenger and David Moyes desperate to sign a marquee name before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Ozil has been speaking today at a media event at the Bernabeu and while he admitted he appreciates the interest being shown in him from the Premier League giants, he insists he won’t be leaving Madrid any time soon.

“I feel really good at Madrid. I have a contract here until 2016. It is an honour to play with this team,”

“I appreciate them [Arsenal and Manchester United] interested in me but my decision is clear: stay here.” Ozil is quoted as saying by the Independent

Ozil is the second Madrid player to rule out a move to Arsenal or United in the past 24 hours after Angel Di Maria also insisted he won’t be leaving this summer. However, there could still be hope for the English duo. While Ozil and Di Maria may not want to leave, if Madrid need to sell to raise money to fund their move for Gareth Bale, one if not both could be forced out the door.  If that was to be the case, the Gunners and United would be well placed to snap them up.

So don’t give up just yet, we could still see Ozil or Di Maria in the Premier League next season. There’s still over 5 days to go until the window shuts and I’m sure there will be plenty of twists and turns.
