Chelsea Confirm The Signing Of Samuel Eto’o On One-Year Deal

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi Makhachkala on a free transfer with the player signing a one-year contract.

As we enter the final stages of the summer transfer window, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Samuel Eto’o has completed his move to Chelsea.

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of striker Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi Makhachkala on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old was made available for transfer by Anzhi this summer after the clubs Russian owner decided to pull the plug on his lavish investment and announced he was cutting the wage bill in half.

This led to strong rumours of a move to Stamford Bridge where the striker would once again link up with Jose Mourinho having won the Champions League with the Portuguese coach during their time at Inter Milan.

We brought you pictures of Eto’o arriving in London late last night with reports claiming he was set to undergo a medical today after agreeing terms over a one-year deal worth £7m.

Now, Chelsea have announced the signing on their official website with Eto’o expressing his eagerness to get going with his new club:

‘I am very happy to be here but also anxious because I want to get playing as soon as possible.

‘It wasn’t a hard decision. I saw the qualities Chelsea have, and I was very happy with Jose Mourinho before, so when the opportunity came, I was very happy to take it.’ Eto’o told Chelseafc.com

Eto’o won’t be in the squad to take on Bayern Munich in the Super Cup final on Friday night so he’ll have to wait until after the international break to make his debut for the Blues.

His arrival now casts doubt over the future’s of Fernando Torres and Demba Ba, although the Senegalese hitman is the most likely to leave and has been linked with a move back to Newcastle United.
