Romanian Striker Heading To Arsenal Or Spurs? He’ll Tell Us Next Week

Ciprian Marica is set to reveal which club he’ll be joining next week and north London duo Arsenal and Spurs are in the running, according to Sky Sports News

Despite the summer transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up to date on all the latest transfer news. Today, Arsenal and Spurs target Ciprian Marica will decide his future next week.

Ciprian Marica is set to reveal which club he’ll be joining next week and north London duo Arsenal and Tottenham are in the running for his signature, according to Sky Sports News.

The 27-year-old was released by Schalke at the end of last season when his contract expired and he’s been looking for a new club ever since, with a whole of clubs throughout Europe linked in recent months.

Among the reported interested parties are Arsenal and Spurs with Sky Sports News claiming the north London duo are keen to bring him to the Premier League and Marcia’s agent, Ioan Becali, was quoted last month as saying the striker was ‘close’ to making a move to the Emirates:

“He is close to Arsenal. We’ll see this week.”

“Marica is a very good striker, a Romanian international and very experienced in western European football.

“It is normal that he is targeted by big clubs, all the more so after he has completed his contract with Schalke.”

It seems Marica has been taking his time deliberating over which move is best for his career and he told a press conference on Thursday that he’s still negotiating with three teams with a final decision over his next club due by the end of next week.

“I am in negotiations with three teams.

“I hope I will be able to tell you the name of my next team by the end of next week.” Marica is quoted as saying by Sky Sports

Marica struggled for goals during his final year with Schalke, finding the net just 3 times in 13 appearances, but he has an excellent record for his nation, scoring 22 goals in 64 games for Romania, so he certainly has pedigree at international level.

Of the two English clubs linked, you’d argue that Arsenal are in need of a striker the most. Arsene Wenger currently only has Olivier Giroud to call upon due to injuries to Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo so the potential signing of Marica would ease the load on the Frenchman.

Spurs have three senior strikers on their books already – Roberto Soldado, Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor – so you’d have to question whether Andre Villas-Boas requires another frontman at White Hart Lane.

But we’ll have to wait and see where he goes next week, but Sky Sports claim Italian side Fiorentina are also in the running so he may end up snubbing a move to the Premier League entirely.
