The Reds currently sit level on points with Arsenal but can move three points clear with a win in the north east ahead of the Gunners clash with Norwich.
Brendan Rodgers appears to have come through the international break without any major injuries. In fact, he has been boosted by several players returning to the squad.
Right back Glen Johnson is available again after recovering from an ankle problem but he is lacking match fitness so may have to make do with a place on the bench as Rodgers sticks with Jordan Henderson on the right side of his new 3-5-2 formation.
Daniel Agger remains out so Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho should continue at the back, with Lucas Leiva returning to the midfield alongside Steven Gerrard after completing his one match ban.
Luis Suarez scored for Uruguay in midweek and he’s expected to once again form his deadly partnership with Daniel Sturridge up front. Here’s the team Rodgers could go with against Newcastle:
